Ellen-Louise Moens - Partner

Ellen-Louise’s main area of practice is international arbitration, including commercial and investment treaty arbitration. She is an attorney in New York, a solicitor of England & Wales, and was formerly a member of the Paris bar, which is in the process of renewal. She has experience under both common and civil law systems.

After completing her training contract with Herbert Smith Freehills in London, she practiced international arbitration and litigation at international law firms in Paris and New York. Before joining CANDEY, Ellen-Louise was counsel at a New York boutique law firm, Walsh Guevara LLP, where she advised the firm and its clients on cross-border disputes, investments, and related matters. She was also an adjunct professor of law at Fordham Law School, where she taught the international arbitration practicum.

Ellen-Louise has acted as counsel in numerous commercial arbitrations and investment arbitrations relating to businesses involved in oil and gas, mining, construction, the food industry, telecommunications, and infrastructure (amongst others). She has experience arbitrating under various rule regimes, including those of the ICC, LCIA, AAA, CEPANI, ICSID, and UNCITRAL. She also has experience in enforcement proceedings and cross border litigation.

Ellen-Louise is a member of several professional associations including Arbitral Women, the International Bar Association (IBA) and Young ICCA. Ellen-Louise speaks at conferences and publishes in international arbitration. Ellen-Louise graduated cum laude from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service in Washington, D.C. and holds an LLB in Commercial Law from BPP Law School in London. She completed her Masters of Law at Columbia Law School in New York, where she was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar.

Ellen-Louise is a dual citizen of the United States and Belgium. She has lived in France, Portugal, Spain, England, and Kenya. She is fluent in Flemish (Dutch), French and Spanish and speaks Portuguese at an intermediate level.
